Welcome back
9th September 2022
A very warm welcome to both new and returning staff as we embark on a new academic year. Welcome to your school. Welcome to Learning Partners Academy Trust. I hope you are all rested and ready for whatever lies ahead. I find the start of an academic year in many ways a much better time to consider some form of resolution compared to the start of a new calendar year.
Given we spend so much time at our places of work, reflecting on our work practices at the start of an academic year, seems more helpful and a better time to adapt or change what we do. I am sure that many of you intend to respond to emails more promptly, become more organised and ensure that the robustness of all aspects of your working life are as effective in July as they might be today.
At the end of last term, I listened to a very experienced headteacher talk about their work. They described their job as a school leader was making sure that all teachers and staff are more effective and ‘better’ in July than they are in September; a challenge for us as leaders and a professional responsibility for us all. For a 7th year, we are working in collaboration with the Royal Grammar School and Epsom College to engage in the ‘Enquiring Teachers Programme’, a programme designed to give teachers the opportunity to explore an aspect of teaching and learning that will have a positive impact on their practice. These projects will run between October 2022 and June 2023 and will involve attending a number of workshops and individually agreed coaching sessions to support each enquiry. The first workshop will be held in the Autumn Term. Learning Partners are looking to fund and deliver up to 5 enquiries across Learning Partner schools drawing on both primary and secondary colleagues to engage in research activities around the themes below. Practice(s) to support the needs of the disadvantaged Approaches to high quality reading instruction to enhance reading skills Ways to improve writing Responsive teaching
Staff can apply individually or in pairs (phase or cross-phase) to undertake a collaborative project. For any interested members of staff, please click HERE to access the application form . Please complete and return this to aroach@learningpartners.org no later than 10.00am on Monday 19 September 2022.
These projects will provide an excellent opportunity for colleagues to undertake enquiry and reflection and to engage in research activities. Whilst there will be no financial remuneration for this work, I am sure that you agree that this would have a beneficial impact on your professional development. Many best wishes to you all for the year ahead.
