An Inspector (or two HMIs) Calls!
3rd May 2024
Out of the mouths…
Unsurprisingly, early reading and phonics became a thread for us but we felt confident we could illustrate our narrative that phonics is a key strategy, however, it is the love of reading that ensures children become engaged and effective learners. As the little troop of Year 4s made their way to their meeting, this was brought to life in the best of ways:
“I love reading….it gets me out of learning”.
Not necessarily entirely reflective of our narrative but it did at least show that whatever the barriers, this vital part of the primary journey is truly appreciated by all.
The marathon and not the sprint…
Like all schools, Boxgrove has been on a decade-long journey and this most recent inspection reinforced our strongly held belief that building habits takes time and it is those embedded habits that make all the difference in the world of continuous school improvement; that and a great curriculum!
For us, personal development and opportunities being held as a central tenet to every aspect of school life makes the difference to children’s views of themselves and of what is possible. How can we find the next world-famous sculptor if we never give them a piece of clay?
Looking back to look forwards…
On the back of last week, we have been reflecting on the inspection experience and what might be next for Boxgrove. Going forwards, what is clear is that we will continue to hold on to our beliefs about what we think primary education should be like for the children we serve and it is they who, as ever, will guide us to the next milestone.
